An Operations Engineer carrying out FTTP installations on the County Broadband network to rural FTTP customers. Within my short time in this role I was part of a few different teams building/installing a fibre network into flats. Or better know as an MDU build. This involves running and introducing fibre from the node to the basement box, overcoming any issues along the way. My time spent here consisted of : HV conflict - removal of openreach / BT network of what could be accessed on HV network safely. Planning and carrying out the work to divert and restore the network. D pole change outs / emergency works - Any providers poles that were marked “D” or had issues that would require a change would be on the list. Removing all connections and equipment off poles to then Change them out. replacing, restoring and updating the equipment. Duties includeInstalling cable from telegraph pole with a fibre access terminal (FAT) to property, which could be one or more spans. Once the cable is mounted onto property I would at my best meet the customers requirements to get the cable to where they wish and be as neat and as deseret as possible. These are mainly off of a MEWP or better know as a cherry picker. I also do what’s known as UG installs which are from a PIT/Manhole to Toby, which then goes to the property. This would need to be done with what’s called a cobra, which is pushed through the duct. One end to the other, you would then attach the cable to this and pull through. After these installs there could be an excuses amount of cable left which would have to be spliced.I have also done network build, which entails pushing a cobra through duct and pulling 48 fibre through and installing overhead spans of 48 fibre to match and meet all requirements.I have trained other engineers so they have knowledge of how to do the job and help prepare them for the tests.Also I rectify jobs that have gone faulty. Duties include Installing phone lines for customers; working from telegraph polls to the PCP cabs and communicating with customers in a polite manor.
