Each year the Chief of Staff of the Air Force sponsors three captains to obtain PhDs primarily in strategic studies to build a cadre of strategic thinkers. The program is designed to select competent operators early in their careers and give them three years of full-time studies at a prestigious civilian university to obtain high-level degrees that the US Air Force and Department of Defense will be able to utilize in the future when new complex problems arise.Studied NATO's Out of Area Activities in the 21st Century. I developed a framework for future leaders to analyze how, why, and when NATO chooses to embark on missions outside of its member's borders by examining NATO's missions in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and Libya.

The Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program, established in the spirit of NATO, is conducted by the 80th Flying Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. ENJJPT is the world's only multi-nationally manned and managed flying training program chartered to produce combat pilots for NATO.The functional benefits of the ENJJPT Program are mainly -- lower cost, better training environment, enhanced standardization, and interoperability. The operational benefits of ENJJPT are developing bonds of friendship and respect among all participant nations. The student pilots and staff instructors of today will be the leaders of NATO's air forces of tomorrow. Therefore, having trained together, they will be much better prepared to fight and win when the need arises.
