About Nathan J. Hardy, Phd

I lead through relationship building, endless learning, and strategic thinking. In my current role as Assistant Dean of Students at the University of Chicago Divinity School, I provide resources and guidance to students from the time they begin thinking about graduate study as prospective applicants right through until they are applying for and securing professional positions. To achieve this, I develop strategies for recruiting and yielding top applicants, manage our admissions process in collaboration with teams across campus, and lead our professional development programming, including the re-launch of our pioneering Colman Program for the Craft of Teaching, Leadership, and Service. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by students, faculty, and staff from whom I learn daily, and to be in a position where I grow in my knowledge of this university and how it functions. My work at the Div School builds on my previous roles at UChicagoGRAD, where I developed practices to bring together current students, alumni, and external partners around the impact UChicago graduate students and postdocs have on the world around them. By articulating and leading our alumni engagement strategy, organizing career exploration and networking opportunities, implementing the launch of a new oral communications program, managing student support for 60+ internships/year, and conducting frequent career conversations with both alumni and students, I advanced UChicagoGRAD's mission to help graduate students and postdocs navigate their careers and step into the future. As I move forward in my career, I will rely upon a keen ability to listen and advise with both charity and criticism, recognizing where a story or an argument falls short and articulating what the evidence, data, and skills on hand can tell us. As I continue to work with others to build systems and bring new ideas into practice, I look forward to leveraging the relationships and information that lead to strategic decisions.
