Maintenance and implementation of lab information systems (SCC Soft) for core lab and microbiology sections. Collaboration with Epic HIS teams and local public health agencies. Test build and revision, interface troubleshooting, HL7 messaging.

Supervised the daily operations for the UC San Diego Health Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, housed in the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine (CALM). We provide centralized diagnostic testing services for the entire UC San Diego system, including cutting edge technology and direct educational support for the UC San Diego medical school and CLS training programs. My areas of responsibility include managing 24/7 specimen receiving and processing, oversight of the mycology laboratory, and managing the BLS3 laboratory. I also work closely with the LIS team to build and implement new tests.

My duties included supervising daily operations of a full-service independent diagnostic microbiology lab, providing clinical testing for hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare providers from across the country. Our laboratory is also heavily involved in clinical trial studies involving new products and medications that may be impacted by or used to treat infectious diseases.

The Technical Operations Team deployed and supported an 8-bed mobile hospital unit tasked with supplementing or substituting existing health care infrastructure during a disaster or planned large-scale event. We worked with local and state emergency management partners to coordinate logistics and response activities, provide subject matter expertise in the technical systems and capabilities of the MMU, and coordinate with Mobile Medical Teams, local healthcare providers, and Medical Reserve Corps volunteers to provide seamless integration with clinical response.

Using the Incident Command System (ICS), I coordinated the lab component of MMT response to disasters and emergency incidents of public health significance. I was tasked with recruiting and training other laboratory professionals in MMT protocols through training and educational exercises throughout Minnesota. I also provided subject matter expertise to other stakeholders on laboratory practices in an adjusted standard of care under austere conditions.

At the local and state level, I coordinated and delivered clinical laboratory training on Laboratory Response Network (LRN) Sentinel methods, emergency response, and personal preparedness. My duties also included coordinating the MDH Challenge Set program for LRN Sentinel Laboratories in Minnesota and North Dakota. My technical role also included receiving, processing, and analyzing samples from potential biological and chemical threat incidents using LRN Reference methods for potential agents of bioterrorism.At the national level, I coordinated and facilitated LRN Reference and Rapid Methods courses, and served on the APHL Sentinel Methods Sub-Committee in 2011.Accomplishments included the design and coordination of regional and state emergency preparedness drills and exercises, enhancing and expanding the continuing education program for MDH Public Health Lab staff, and developing pre-professional outreach programs in public health and clinical microbiology for secondary and post-secondary students through HealthForce Minnesota and the Association of Public Health Laboratories.

Performed phlebotomy, specimen processing, and identification and susceptibility testing of BSL2/3 pathogens (including bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and mycobacteria).Trained CLS students in clinical microbiology techniques.Performed molecular diagnostics using the Seimens Versant 440 bDNA, Abbott m2000, BioRad iCycler, ThirdWave Invader, and Roche LightCycler platforms. Performed identification and susceptibility testing of BSL2/3 pathogens as described above.Revised and composed new departmental QC/QA standards for susceptibility testing and SOPs for blood culture, AFB, and mycology.
