I have worked at Norfolk Southern for nine years. I started in the diesel shop overhauling locomotives but after two years worked my way into the machine shop. Our shop had 4 CNC machines from the early 80s that where all but mothballed ( no one knew how to program them). I had experience in highschool programing CNC Machines and took it upon myself to get these machines up and running. over the years we have gone from running one program on two machines to now running three machines everyday and even getting some new CNC machines ordered and in the shop. I have been very fortunate to have a major say in what machines we are getting and been supported in getting them tooled up and optioned up very nicely. I enjoy programming, Mastercam software, tooling, setup, and keeping the area work flow. I am also in charge of ordering stock, ordering tools, and giving out jobs to the other machinist in the CNC shop.
