My past, present, and future scholarship focuses on addressing how changing climate, land-use, and disturbance affect forest ecosystems. I complement this work with research on various natural history topics in plant community and forest ecology. Aysen Region, Chile

I completed a three-month, field-based conservation science program in Chilean Patagonia, participating in fieldwork in and around Bernardo O’Higgins National Park (the largest protected area in Chile and fourth largest in South America), the future Patagonia National Park, and Tamango National Reserve. Fieldwork, in cooperation with Chile’s Corporación Nacional Forestal (CONAF) and the U.S.-based NGO Conservación Patagónica, included expeditions of up to 11 days in very remote locations conducting biodiversity assessments and searching for the endangered huemul deer. I also completed a project investigating the sustainable ecotourism opportunities in the region and worked with Will Greene to complete a video documenting our expedition through the upper Pascua River valley (see below).

I work with PhD candidate Geoffrey Griffiths and Dr. Gregory McGee at SUNY ESF. Our work focuses on sampling plant and insect communities as it relates to different forest types in central New York. We are also quantifying the limitations to plant recovery through planting, pollination, and seed removal trials. In 2017, I conducted an independent project to examine how seed predation and ant dispersal affect establishment of native plant communities.
