From July 2023 to August 2024, Nathan worked as a junior engineer in the Range Safety Office at the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) at Naval Air Station Patuxent River. In this position he developed general hazard control procedures and project-specific range safety documentation, as well as provided support to the Range Safety Team during range events. In addition, he provided technical support to the Range Safety Office in the subjects of hazard analysis/mitigation, probabilistic risk assessment, and flight safety systems, specializing in unmanned aerial systems.

In January 2022, Nathan started working as a research assistant in the SU Neutrino Group in the Syracuse University Department of Physics. He researched the improvement of liquid scintillator detectors proposed for use in the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) far detector module. More specifically, he worked on finding the most optimal blends for an Opaque Water-Based Liquid Scintillator (OWLS) detector. This research included taking spectrum measurements, analyzing data, and programming simulations of the project.

Nathan worked full-time as an undergraduate research assistant in Summer 2022. While there, he programmed a simulation of the OWLS apparatus in Geant4, a simulation framework developed by CERN. In addition, he worked as an instructor in the SURPh (Syracuse University Research in Physics) program, a month-long summer research program for high school students, teaching students about the standard model, cosmic rays, and using python to analyze cosmic ray data.
