As Director I am responsible for the regional Natural Resources cost centre and overall management of the personnel, project delivery sponsorship, regional growth and co-ordination with the broader ANZ and global budgeting, forecasting and strategic development. The Natural Resources sector includes Mining and Metals, Oil & Gas, Clean Energy & Decarbonisation, Advisory and Contract Services.

Following the construction completion of the crushing plant in Spain, I returned to complete the commissioning and ramp-up through JukesTodd along with finalising the construction of the tailings dam and remaining non-process infrastructure. I then assisted the client to drive the remaining pre-concentrator and concentrator construction and commissioning to completion. In the last 4 years I have had various roles globally and domestically. JukesTodd was acquired in September 2022 by Turner & Townsend to become Turner & Townsend JukesTodd (TTJT) for ANZ Natural Resources.

I managed the Competitive ECI process to enable the EPC Contractor selection for execution. This provided a competitively run Capex and Opex cost to feed into the final study. I also joined the Operational Readiness team within Winu to ensure all stakeholders are engaged with the plant design and EPC contractor selection process. I formed part of the leadership team to establish the overall project development, contracting strategies, delay mitigation strategies and schedule management based on issues surrounding native title and the EPA delays, responsible for pushing out site access dates.

I was responsible for completion of the Non-process Infrastructure, Project Execution & Operations Management chapters and assist the remaining chapter owners to complete their chapters such as the Processing Plant and Port Facility. I gained a detailed understanding through the DFS investigations of the fourth largest lake in Australia on water catchment, evaporation and surface water behaviour, hydrology and hydrogeology in an extremely sensitive environmental and cultural landscape. This included the need to supply 3.25 Gigalitres/a of bore water to the processing facility from 43kms away. I was responsible for writing the NPI, Project Implementation & Operations Management Chapters. This includes identification of all work packages for Capex and Opex build-up, execution/operations organisational structure development, manning histograms & finalising contracting strategies.

Mopani Copper Project, Zambia

As a short-term assignment, I was part of a team to review the construction progress of the Mopani copper concentrator in Zambia. The review highlighted that there was an immediate requirement for a further review on Commissioning and Operational Readiness. I mobilised to site to complete the review and develop a plan and rollout. I identified the major gaps and mitigation strategies including mobilisation of a commissioning support team and the development of asset management plan including master data integration into the CMMS system and further development of the delay accounting system. Mopani accepted the Operational Readiness Plan and compliance is continuously monitored. Following successful delivery of the Operational readiness plan, Nathan was requested to complete a further operational readiness review on two of Mopanis new mine shafts. This included all aspects of shaft operations. The review was completed and accepted with project plans in place. Unfortunately the entire operation was put into care and maintenance due to unfavourable copper price.

Project Manager partnering with Ridgehill Resources designing and constructing a 350tph Tungsten processing plant close to Merida, Spain. Contract with Iberian Resources Spain to deliver this project through detail design, procurement, construction, commissioning and ramp-up.

Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines (Kcgm)

I undertook a short, successful, 6 week assignment to assist Newmont at their KCGM Operation. the assignment involved working with the Newmont Asset Management team on site to deliver a corporate initiative – Full Potential. Required to complete an assessment of the work management practices in planning and maintenance, the delay accounting and a labour productivity study. The deliverables included recommendations to enhance the work management processes to ultimately increase reliability and reduce costs.

Since integrating into this role as a full time employee, major successes have been:o Delay accounting standardisation across 5 FMG sites. Previously 5 different configurations of asset hierarchy and cause/reason codes. All now aligned to simplified, revised Time Usage Model and identical OEE calculations.o Establishing major equipment and component reliability focus groups to increase reliability and reduce operating costs (Circa $5M/a reduction in operating costs).o Work-shopped and developed strategy and implementation plan for off-site repair (OSR) department (currently on target to reduce operating costs by $20M/a). With this, OSR specification/SOW packages were developed to enable tracking of repairs and effective cost control of the items.o Initiated rationalisation and standardisation of components (wear liners, CV belts, pulleys, etc.) to reduce inventory holdings and effectively operating costs.o Successfully initiated China sourcing projects to integrate into FMG such as conveyor belts, wear liners, pumps and motors. Multiple trials have been successful and further order placed.

Perth Office/Port Hedland/Cloudbreak/Christmas Creek

Project Manager for a variety of projects (up to $5M) at FMGs Anderson Point Facility. The aim here was to lean up existing budgeted projects and carry forward the unbudgeted and unplanned projects into completion prior to EFY 2016.I was also responsible for the delivery of three new tailings dams at the Christmas Creek and Cloudbreak operations concurrently. All projects were extremely environmentally sensitive and completed successfully without issue.

Cloudbreak

 Project Manager for a variety of throughput and upgrade projects in aim to increase production and quality of the low grade iron ore deposit. The aim here was to utilise existing infrastructure, equipment and personnel for fast, easy win, low cost projects in the short term following on with longer term larger projects for sustainability.

 Project Manager for the construction of the FMG Solomon Ammonium Nitrate Bulk Storage Facility. $11.5M. Primero were engaged to construct and commission the facility. At 35% construction of the facility, the Iron Ore price fell causing suspension of the works. The project was tracking well and all costs were closed out in anticipation of recommencement in the 2015/2016 financial year.  Project Manager for the demolition of the fire destroyed Windimurra Beneficiation Plant. $2.6M. Two months following the demobilisation of Primero Group from site, the beneficiation tower caught fire and destroyed the critical equipment. Primero were engaged to de-construct the six story building in preparation to re-design and rebuild. The Project was completed well under budget and two weeks ahead of schedule without incident.  Project Manager for the Windimurra Vanadium Plant Upgrade Projects. This involved improving the processing plant from a disastrous 20% production capacity and possible closure to up to name-plate capacity and availability. From concept through to detail design, construction and commissioning of over 75 small and medium sized projects. Nameplate capacity achieved.  Project Manager for the Greenbushes Tantalum Re-start Project. This involves a primary processing plant audit and inspection process to develop a Capex report with intention to move into remedial construction and commissioning.

A diverse experience with Ausenco with a lot of time in the design office in Perth but mostly maintained my desire to go where the action is with on site commissioning. Responsible for construction finalisation, dry, wet and ore commissioning of all SMP, Electrical and Instrumentation throughout the plant with main focus on sustaining continuous production and optimisation. Contracted as Commissioning Team Leader for trash screens, flotation and thickening. Responsible for construction finalisation, dry and wet commissioning of all SMP, Electrical and Instrumentation and controls throughout the areas. Commissioning completed on time and with perfect safety record.

Sepon Gold/Copper Project, Laos

Performed duties as Senior Metallurgist on the Gold Operation whilst undertaking Commissioning of the gold plant expansion including a new SAG mill and associated downstream infrastructure. Supervised a resin water polishing pilot plant along with assisting the construction and commissioning of the neighboring copper plant. A key skill developed during this time is the training of the local, unskilled personnel which i have formed lasting friendships as a result.

Sunrise Dam Gold Mine

General Plant Metallurgist Duties and gold room operation plus assisting in plant expansion projects such as introduction of tertiary crushing and circuit optimisation. Formed part of the Emergency Response Team that competed in the 2002 Kalgoorlie ER Competition and won the Vehicle Extrication comp.
