About Nathan Marr

As a dedicated and energetic professional I have developed my knowledge and managerial skills over a mining career of over 25 years. Whilst I started out as a Metallurgist, I have been involved in design, construction, commissioning, operations and corporate asset management on a variety of processing plants and companies globally, finding my passion lies primarily in project delivery. I have been in design, operations & lead commissioning roles in mineral sands, nickel, gold, gold/silver, copper, gold/copper & magnetite & iron ore operations in Australia, New Zealand, Borneo, Tanzania, Argentina, Zambia, Papua New Guinea, Norway and Spain. Since starting my own company MetComm Pty Ltd, I have completed a two year contract as Commissioning Specialist/Construction Superintendent for FMGs Christmas Creek operation where I was responsible for bring on first ore to the train load out and assisted in the ramp up of the stage 1&2 ore processing facilities. I furthered my Project Management skills with successes on multiple projects for a design, engineering & construction company on both process and non-process infrastructure including a Project Manager role for multiple business critical projects at FMG’s Cloudbreak operation, Port facility and tailing projects across the business.I undertook the Asset Manager Role for fixed plant Fortescue Metals Group, developing strategies to further synergies between FMGs various sites, increase reliability across major mechanical equipment and reduce operating costs. As Project Manager, I successfully completed a PMC style engagement on a Tungsten Project in Extremadura, Spain. The project involved the detailed design management of the crushing and screening circuit, Construction Management and Commissioning Management. From 2018 I engaged with JukesTodd through MetComm with various roles such as leading a current state assessment and assisting in the write-up of a DFS for a Sulphate of Potash developer, leading an Operational Readiness program on a copper concentrator in Zambia and as the Area Manager for the study finalisation and competitive FEED of a copper concentrator in Western Australia. In September 2022 JukesTodd was acquired by Turner & Townsend and the ANZ Natural Resources Segment became Turner & Townsend JukesTodd (TTJT). My current role as Director - Natural Resources ANZ hold accountability for the Perth Natural Resources Cost Centre and NR hub team management along with supporting multiple projects over a broad range of clients.

Area Manager - Process Plant, Winu Project

Perth, Western Australia, Australia

I managed the Competitive ECI process to enable the EPC Contractor selection for execution. This provided a competitively run Capex and Opex cost to feed into the final study. I also joined the Operational Readiness team within Winu to ensure all stakeholders are engaged with the plant design and EPC contractor selection process. I formed part of the leadership team to establish the overall project development, contracting strategies, delay mitigation strategies and schedule management based on issues surrounding native title and the EPA delays, responsible for pushing out site access dates.

Dfs Support Specialist, Lake Mackay

Perth, Western Australia, Australia

I was responsible for completion of the Non-process Infrastructure, Project Execution & Operations Management chapters and assist the remaining chapter owners to complete their chapters such as the Processing Plant and Port Facility. I gained a detailed understanding through the DFS investigations of the fourth largest lake in Australia on water catchment, evaporation and surface water behaviour, hydrology and hydrogeology in an extremely sensitive environmental and cultural landscape. This included the need to supply 3.25 Gigalitres/a of bore water to the processing facility from 43kms away. I was responsible for writing the NPI, Project Implementation & Operations Management Chapters. This includes identification of all work packages for Capex and Opex build-up, execution/operations organisational structure development, manning histograms & finalising contracting strategies.

2019 - 2020 ~1 yr

Commissioning And Operational Readiness Specialist

Mopani Copper Project, Zambia

As a short-term assignment, I was part of a team to review the construction progress of the Mopani copper concentrator in Zambia. The review highlighted that there was an immediate requirement for a further review on Commissioning and Operational Readiness. I mobilised to site to complete the review and develop a plan and rollout. I identified the major gaps and mitigation strategies including mobilisation of a commissioning support team and the development of asset management plan including master data integration into the CMMS system and further development of the delay accounting system. Mopani accepted the Operational Readiness Plan and compliance is continuously monitored. Following successful delivery of the Operational readiness plan, Nathan was requested to complete a further operational readiness review on two of Mopanis new mine shafts. This included all aspects of shaft operations. The review was completed and accepted with project plans in place. Unfortunately the entire operation was put into care and maintenance due to unfavourable copper price.
