In close coordination with members, manage system emergencies and direct the necessary corrective actions (from loading available generation, implementing load management curtailment programs, implementing a voltage reduction, to interrupting firm customer load) to relieve the emergency conditions. Evaluate and coordinate scheduled transmission outages of the transmission elements within the PJM territory, and grants final approval for the switching of facilities in and out of service. Coordinate operations, resolve problems and direct assistance on an inter-regional basis with other systems outside PJM. Participate in training programs and provide training to new power dispatching candidates, other dispatchers, and familiarizes other employees about system operations. Document the operation of the system for later use in after-the-fact system analysis. Assist in the development, implementation, and improvement of new systems to provide PJM’s members greater value and enhance operations. Maintain power system reliability by ensuring operations are in compliance with applicable NERC standards and PJM operating and emergency procedures.

Working with gas suppliers, transmission personnel, and plant personnel to ensure maximum efficiency of company assets. Responsibilities include, selling power, starting and stopping combustion turbines and combine cycle units, maintaining scheduled power loads and meeting load demands. Interfacing directly with PJM personnel and software. Maintaining EMS system for plant control and combustion turbine control. Maintaining proper certifications (MOC, ITP, NERC), working 24-hour shift work to ensure reliability and optimal power delivery.
