Group design of a revolutionary bioethanol production and waste water treatment plant, plus an individual detailed design of a microbubble based condenser for ethanol recovery. I experienced the unique issues associated with cutting edge design and implemented a creative solution to refine ethanol/water mixtures.The group section of the project added significantly to my ability to plan and execute design tasks as an engineering team and allowed me to deploy effective project management skills with regards to planning, including a critical path analysis and the subsequent allowance for scope creep. The individual section was heavily technically focused and tested my engineering knowledge as well as time management and organisation skills, which improved hugely as a result and aided in ensuring the project was completed on time and to an excellent standard.

Ran after school science clubs at a local primary school. Aimed at inspiring and introducing simple scientific concepts to children aged 5 - 8. The activities were based on very simple science concepts that were explained at the start of each session, after which the children would get into groups of 4 or 5 and compete to see who could best complete the task. Activities were all practical based, such as making towers from spaghetti and marshmallows, or building bridges using newspaper and string.The club was great fun and very competitive. I gained some invaluable teaching experience and some perspective of how science is perceived through the eyes of a child.

Required effective organisation and communication skills in order to ensure all customers received prescriptions as and when required.Also assisted with daily and weekly stock takes giving valuable insight into the financial side of the business. This also included learning how to use the in-house computer system in order to update the stock reserves of each ailment.Other general jobs included making sure shelves were fully stocked, admin/filing and refreshing the window display to ensure the ailments on display were suitable for the time of year.
