Profile bio

About Nathan Richner

Research in magnetic plasma confinement, particularly in context of advancing controlled nuclear fusion. Current work includes maintenance, calibration, and analysis of magnetic arrays on the DIII-D tokamak; study of neoclassical tearing mode physics and nonlinear tearing mode coupling physics.Previous work was focused on the study of magnetic activity present during local helicity injection, a nonsolenoidal tokamak startup technique. Designed, constructed, and calibrated several magnetic diagnostic probes. Utilized these diagnostics in experiments investigating the role of instabilities and magnetic turbulence in local helicity injection relaxation and current drive.
