Educator
While working at North America’s largest conservation park I had the opportunity to develop a multitude of skills including how to work in a remote environment as the park ranged around 10,000 acres. With over 30 herds of endangered or threatened species living within the park, free range, I had a lot of responsibility to educate guests and campers ages 8-18 on the amazing creatures living within the park. Through educational programs, and tours of the facility I was able to accomplish the mission of the Wilds connecting our guests to conservation and the importance it holds.
Unit Lead
In this position I was entrusted to run a small team and marine science programs. We were responsible for covering a wide assortment of curriculum, working with the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital assisting with husbandry and shadowing of the rehabilitation of sea turtles, as well as general care taking of campers 13-18 years old. As unit leader I was responsible for the effectiveness of my group for the 9-week period including keeping records, maintaining schedules, the team’s ability to work together, medical/ emergency responsibilities and even financial records. This position augmented my responsibility skillset as there was a large amount of pressure put on me as the temporary caretaker of 12 different teenagers each week. Along with this I was also responsible for the structuring and development of itineraries, activities, and curriculum.
Research Assistant
Maintaining the husbandry of various plant and aquatic species while obtaining data to further develop the efficacy of Integrated multitrophic aquaponics and the public's perception of the various products the system yields.
Park Operations
In this position I had the opportunity to refine my guest experience interactions. This was done through a wide variety of tasks from educating the zoo guests on the plethora of animals held within the zoo, explaining the various traits of the sharks and rays held in the touch tank, to even putting in the manual labor of setting up and tearing down for special events. This experience gave me an insight into the daily routines of the various departments within a zoo environment.
