After two decades in the Northeast, moving to Houston challenged me to embrace a newfound uncertainty. May 2018 - Aug 2018

Head Engineering Design Iii Teaching Assistant

Hoboken, Nj, Us

The Engineering Design III lab is a bridge from students' classroom knowledge surrounding mechanics of solids into scale project design. Students link stress vs. strain diagrams and concepts regarding the first and second moment of area to designing and constructing a 2-D planar truss. As the head teaching assistant, I was in charge of recruiting, hiring, and training new teaching assistants each semester. During class I provided LabVIEW support for modeling trusses and aided students in construction. My top responsibility was ensuring safety. Despite being born in the classroom, this safety emphasis propagated into my professional endeavors at Exxon, Unilever, Chemtura, and Sun Chemical and will be a cornerstone of my career going forward. As with all of my pursuits, I enjoy teaching and sharing my experiences with those eager to learn. I TA'd because I took pleasure in interacting with the newest generation of Stevens students and in forging relationships with professors that I would else-wise not have enjoyed the chance to develop. Students with the ambition to learn should have their curiosity stoked, and I took pride in being a resource that fuels their pursuits.

Aug 2015 - Dec 2017

Supply Chain Analyst

Blackfriars, London, Gb

As an intern within the North American Operational Excellence Team, I had the opportunity to help wage the War on Waste as we provided industry leading service levels and product quality to our customers. Prior to January 2017, the North American supply chain team did not have a single source to track slow moving and blocked inventory. Inventory logs were scattered among local spreadsheets, third-party logistics software, and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. In conjunction with a consultant firm, I assessed the user requirements from manufacturing plants and distribution centers, reconciled those business needs with ERP constraints, and developed an MS SQL inventory repository (the quality tracker tool). I then owned user acceptance and refined the tool through several iterations. By integrating corporate, distribution and manufacturing communication into a single medium, the team cleaned 47% of obsolete inventory from the Foods supply chain and reduced quality holds by 10% over 4 months. As my time at Unilever drew to a close, I transitioned to training the counterpart Personal Care and Refreshments supply chain teams in the best practices developed in Foods.

Jan 2017 - Aug 2017

Process Engineer

Köln, De

The Chemtura New Jersey Hub is comprised of three plants (Fords, East Hanover, and Perth Amboy) producing specialty esters for applications ranging from aviation turbine oils to refrigeration lubricants. As an intern within the hub engineering department, I worked on validating the process and instrument diagrams for the Fords production facility. I field verified the diagrams and updated the plant drawings in AutoCad accordingly. In conjunction with the P&ID work, I had the opportunity to assess cost reduction projects, including: automated nitrogen drying, replacing steam jets with a vacuum pump system, and installing a co-generation power supply. During the second half of my tenure, I evaluated our preventative maintenance (PM) plan and mechanical integrity (MI) program. As a maintenance team, we reviewed lost production time due to mechanical failures and issues stemming from our DCS control system. After identifying the highest risk incidents, I wrote several PM programs within SAP to reduce downtime.

May 2016 - Aug 2016

Electronic Materials Engineer

Parsippany, Nj, Us

As an intern in the Electronic Materials department, I had the opportunity to develop a silver front contact paste for photovoltaic applications. The team worked to develop the next industry standard paste by manipulating inorganic additives to improve overall performance. Through an optimized paste formulation in conjunction with a tailored firing profile, we minimized parasitic resistances and boosted cell efficiencies through a process detailed in the slides below. My time at Sun Chemical was my first research and development experience. I routinely worked with screen printers to refine our critical process parameters that affect our photovoltaic cell’s critical quality attributes. Our projects were evaluated based on capital expenses, material costs, margins and time. These metrics were then aggregated to create a project priority number. Under the guidance of my mentor, I performed basic propagation of error analysis to assess the variance of our priority number. The findings suggested a more favorable project outlook than our current classification, and we were able to present the results to request greater project support.
