I have spent the last two years learning and building, while trying to enjoy the little things in life. I designed and built a 24’ tiny home on wheels to free myself from extreme housing costs. I learned to use SketchUp and other software to build a model of my tiny home from the ground up. My budget has brought me through to a winterized shell of a home. During this last year I also helped my girlfriend create a basement home in just two short months. We cleared the land, and leveled the ground. We built an insulated concrete form foundation that was as easy as building with Legos. After the cement had cured, I tried my hand at plumbing, propane, sewer, electrical, drywall and more. I love every new skill I learn and look forward to putting them to good use as we build the first and second floors this summer.I intend to live off the grid, in a sustainable house, with a small footprint. I enjoy helping my friends, family, and neighbors with their projects to make my hometown a better place.

I worked on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) contract. I attended meetings daily, taking notes, and performing regular administrative support tasks. I regularly helped Program Managers complete their daily tasks by reviewing, editing, and approving files for other departments. I continued to support and maintain software that I had previously developed. I developed new software to help expedite the loading of over sixty laptops for meetings. I completely rebuilt the MCAS Project schedule after the scheduling group was disbanded. I provided accurate schedules to my direct managers, as well as any other department that needed specific schedules. I was an active participant in many problem-solving committees.

Developed, used, and maintained new software solutions for the MCAS, MEPA, and MCAS-ALT contracts. These solutions addressed issues with enrollment gathering, product quantity calculations, iCore change forms, login and tracking of improperly returned answer documents, and other backend reporting. I assisted with the Spring Test Administration Workshops, Technical Advisory Committee meetings, monthly management meetings, and many other meetings. I also helped to start the company’s first “Green Team” to engage employees in ecologically friendly activities. I managed a group of up to 10 temporary employees as we documented issues affecting student’s answer documents. We utilized a custom database that I created for this purpose. I was responsible for keeping them busy, tracking their work, their time, and submitting their timesheets to Kelly Services.

I fielded technical and administrative support calls from teachers, test coordinators, and other education professional for the yearly MCAS, MEPA, and MCAS-ALT test administrations. I also made outgoing calls to notify our clients and the schools about important events, dates, or problems with the test administrations. I documented calls in tracking software regularly and provided reports when the managers couldn’t. I also provided my co-workers with extensive technical support and training for commonly used Microsoft products including Excel and Word. Normally the call center was a small group of just 4-6 people. In 2005, I helped to train more than 30 temporary employees to help with the large volume of calls we were receiving.

This job taught me the value of hard work. I persevered through some of the worst conditions I have ever worked in. Modern constructions sites are cold, windy, and relentless to the uninitiated. Once we finished installing the windows the jobsite became a building. As I finished the touch ups on the exterior, the rest of the workers enjoyed the increasing warmth through their jobsite. I also fabricated and installed commercial storefront windows and doors. I did residential window replacements, and interior and exterior windows and doors for schools, offices, and stores. Using plans made in the office, I made precise measurements and cut aluminum extrusions, and large glass panes into components that I would later construct into beautiful facades. I received my first scissor and boom lift operator’s certificate at York County Glass.
