Senior official responsible for advising the Secretary of the Treasury on global economic developments and policy issues. Directed U.S. multilateral engagement through the G-20, G-7, and International Financial Institutions, including completion of the 2010 quota and governance reforms at the IMF and creation of the Global Crisis Response Platform at the World Bank. Also led efforts to strengthen U.S. bilateral economic engagement, with focus on China (including through the S&ED) and European partners; for example, negotiated with Chinese officials on exchange rate and reserve management issues and directed Treasury’s work on globally significant topics such as Brexit and developments in Greece, Ukraine, and Europe’s banking sector.Cultivated close relationships with senior economic policymakers around the world. Supervised extensive revisions to the biannual “FX Report” following passage of the 2015 Customs Bill. Led Treasury’s participation on the Financial Stability Board, helping to drive the U.S. agenda on global regulatoryissues, such as completion of “TLAC” for systemically important banks. Promoted Treasury’s international initiatives and objectives through regular speeches, public outreach, and extensiveinternational travel. Successfully managed the Office of International Affairs (200 staff), enhancing performance and raising morale.
