In the world of education you have to be willing to try something new for the benefit of the students. Using the one size fits all approach in education doesn't work any longer! Allowing kids to try new approaches and creative ways to show they know/understand things is my approach in education. Allowing kids to think allows them to explore and grasp concepts which helps students to create their own meaning of the concepts we explore in class!

During the program, teachers will facilitate the process of six - eight incoming 6th - 7th grade students: (1) exploring a real world issue that the partnering organization is facing (2) developing and presenting solutions both to leadership at the partnering organization and a group of judges on the last Friday of the program. In addition, participating teachers will develop curriculum/units for their own classrooms based upon what they experience within the program. The 2014 IChallengeUth Program students were paired with a number of local businesses and organizations to address initiatives or issues facing these businesses and organizations. This past summer, I was provided the opportunity to work with The Outdoor Discovery Center and Project Clarity, which is an initiative to clean-up the Lake Macatawa Watershed. After meeting with Travis Williams, Executive Director Outdoor Discovery Center Macatawa Greenway, it was agreed that Project Clarity needed a way to engage local school districts to assist with the cleaning-up of the local watershed. For further details regarding the mission of Project Clarity, please use the link below.
