I was a volunteer in the Sison-Mangus lab at UCSC. I help with setting up experiments and maintaining the lab for future experimental use. I also helped maintain Daphnia(D. Magna) and sub culture multiple different species of ocean microbes, specifically Pseudo-nitzschia. Through the lab, I also worked with PCR and FISH(Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization) Flow Cytometry/Image Flow Cytometry for quantitative and qualitative analysis. I have worked on annotating a Pseudomonas strain within the microbiome of Daphnia to study its potential for bioremediation.

I actively engaged in the design and construction of plasmids through the adept application of BsaI and Goldengate techniques. These plasmids played a pivotal role in facilitating the transformation of BL21 E. coli, aimed at the efficient production of exendin-4. Additionally, I contributed to the genetic engineering of plasmids, incorporating CRISPR-CAS9 single RNA targeting specifically tailored for S. cerevisiae. To validate the precision and efficacy of these molecular constructs, I conducted PCR and Gel Electrophoresis experiments. Furthermore, my involvement extended to the realm of protein purification, where I utilized IMAC and FPLC methods to ensure high-quality yields. The accuracy of protein size was confirmed through meticulous SDS-PAGE analysis. A testament to the significance of our research, I had the privilege of representing the team at the 2022 iGEM conference in Paris, where I helped deliver a compelling poster showcasing our innovative achievements in the field.

I have studied the rice coral, Montipora Capitata and the effects of Atrazine and Estrone on its growth rate as well as its symbiotic microbiome. Conducted water changes and helped do quantitative data analysis- finding the changes in mass as well as PAM(Photosynthetic Amplitude Modulation) of the various corals under the experimental conditions over time.
