I like to think that my strongest asset as an employee is my ability to write. To me, that means not only having the knack for putting words on a page, but also possessing the will to make sure that I have created the best work I can muster. If that entails wracking my brain for hours looking for the exact right words, then that is what I must do. If it means putting in the time to do proper research, gathering my sources one by one and checking them against each other to verify that I have my story straight, then that is absolutely what needs to happen. My time in the University of Mary Washington Creative Writing program has taught me the things that work in writing, the tools needed to compel an audience. More importantly, though, it's taught me what to avoid. I've learned how to keep a plot from going stagnant, how to say a lot in a lot less words, and how to hurdle the all-too-common cliches that can plague a piece of writing, and destroy any chance of it being taken seriously.
