During my time at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in Washington State, I have been able to pursue my passion for using data and technology to improve public K12 education. As Enterprise Architect, OSPI has trusted me to design many of the largest IT projects we have undertaken over the past seven years. In addition to my Enterprise Architecture responsibilities, I manage the State Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) team, which will provide the agency with the ability to track and investigate key performance indicators, and contributed to national causes, including the Common Education Data Standard and the SIF Student Record Exchange standard. I have maintained a strong interest in software development during my time at OSPI, building and maintaining numerous applications for the State of Washington. My interest in public education extends beyond my OSPI work day. I am the CEO and lead developer of Sage Insight, an internet start-up that offers reporting, analytics, and data science services to school districts. Sage Insight is currently working with Hood Canal School District in Washington State to develop our initial data warehouse and UI prototype.

I worked as a software developer during the first three years of my time at OSPI and have since created and filled the role of enterprise architect. As an enterprise architect, I am responsible for strategic and tactical system designs for complex systems and data structures that are used by the K-12 educational environment in Washington State. OSPI houses large amounts of sensitive data that OSPI collects from school districts and uses for funding and reporting purposes. Using the Open Group Architecture Framework, Troux software platform, and Archimate, I ensure that solutions are built consistently, securely, and in a way that maximizes the benefit to the agency and to educators across Washington State.I also manage the Student Longitudinal Data System team, which provides data warehousing, reporting, and analysis services to the agency. The SLDS is increasing in use and importance as the agency is using data to gauge the success of programs and services.
I worked on small contracts until I won a contract with OSPI in July 2006, where I built a user interface for the department's new fingerprinting system.
I worked with a small development team to build technology solutions for all lines of credit union business. I developed many skills during my time at WSECU, including .Net, C#, ASP.Net, ASP Classic, T-SQL, SOAP, and .Net Remoting. Below are a few examples of my experience with WSECU:Began building a Service Oriented Architecture.Helped architect and develop the software base for Q-Cash, a successful Payday Lending product (see http://www.q-cash.com for more details). The software utilizes ASP.Net, .Net Remoting, T-SQL, and provides dynamic form capabilities.Invented and prototyped an application named Financial Messenger that allows members to perform banking transactions from any internet enabled device through a desktop application. When I left WSECU, a PocketPC version of the software was in the testing phase.Built the corporate Intranet with ASP Classic, PHP and SQL 2000.Managed and constructed website components based on XML and XSLT
I worked as a help desk specialist and mainframe operator for EDS, who was contracted to service as WSECUs I.T. department. I left EDS to join WSECU as a Webmaster.
I joined TCCU as an intern. I worked in the accounting department and phone center until I joined the IT helpdesk staff in 1997.
