I work with governments, non-profits, and for-profit social enterprises and organizations to advance solutions to some of the most pressing social justice and environmental issues facing society today.Bio: Nate was an initial advisor to Oregon’s Ballot Measure 109 (the Psilocybin Services Initiative), helped with Ballot Measure 110, and was a founding member of the Craft Cannabis Alliance and the campaign to create interstate adult-use cannabis commerce as a means to accelerate the end of the failed drug war. He’s been the Director of the Plant Medicine Healing since its inception in 2021.He co-created and currently serves as the Director of Operations for InnerTrek – Oregon’s, and the world's, first government-licensed and regulated school to train psilocybin facilitators for licensure – and is a founding Board Member and Executive Director of the Sheri Eckert Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit working to increase access to legal psychedelic therapy and services, beginning in Oregon’s legal psilocybin model.Through the foundation he co-created the Horizons Northwest conference in Portland, which run its third-annual conference in 2024, with foundation now creating and deploying the Psilocybin Access Fund which is on its way to raising $1M to give back to individuals in need, while working with OHSU and others on research to accelerate the path to broader access via insurance coverage for psychedelic therapy in state regulated models.Along with his brother Aaron, Nathan founded East Fork Cultivars in 2015, a cannabis breeding company and farm dedicated to expanding the genetic diversity of the plant and creating therapeutic cannabis products. He also served on the Oregon Cannabis Association’s Board of Directors as its Vice Chair and the Co-Chair of its Political Action Committee. A leader in Oregon’s political community, he served as a Senior Policy Advisor to Portland’s Mayor where he helped develop and pass robust renter protection laws and the city’s roadmap to 100% renewable energy, and prior to that he worked as the Executive Director at Next Up (formerly the Bus Project), a youth empowerment and civic engagement nonprofit. He served as the Oregon Senate Finance Director, was Chief of Staff to Senator Mark Hass where he helped develop the Oregon Promise which guarantees 2 years of free college for lower income Oregonians. He’s born and raised in SE Portland, attended the University of Oregon where he received his BA in City Planning, Public Policy, and Management, and hopes to die in Portland if he’s lucky.

Executive Director And Founding Board MemberSheri Eckert Foundation Jul 2021 - PresentThe Sheri Eckert Foundation’s first objective is to grant scholarships to qualified student applicants who might not otherwise have access to Oregon ballot measure 109 psilocybin facilitator training.Oregon-approved Psilocybin Facilitator Training Programs are set to launch in 2022. We are currently accepting interest forms for training program scholarships. Scholarships can be applied to any participating state-approved program. We’ll follow up with formal application instructions once training programs are approved by the Oregon Health Authority. The mission of the Sheri Eckert Foundation (SEF) is to ensure that Oregon’s evolving psychedelic ecosystem includes professionals and participants from diverse backgrounds, financial means, and geographies around the state. SEF was established in 2021 to honor Sheri’s legacy and fulfill a clearly stated wish. Measure 109 co-creator Sheri Eckert, who passed away in December of 2020, spoke frequently of generating support for “equitable access to psychedelic education and services.” In her words, she wanted to create an institution that, “guided by on-the-ground community leaders, would allocate resources to support facilitator training, community education, and service delivery for often underserved populations.” -

Co-FounderEast Fork Cultivars 2015 - PresentTakilma, Oregon, UsMission | Develop and preserve sustainable, sun-grown farming methods to produce high-quality, genetically diverse, CBD-rich craft cannabis and hemp with a resolute commitment to environmental responsibility, science-based education, and social justice.Starting out in 2014, my brother Aaron and I had one goal in mind: grow a superior plant-based CBD medicine to help relieve their oldest brother, Wesley Howard, from his range of medical conditions. It was witnessing the positive effects of CBD-rich cultivars that drove our desire to expand, so we could provide all Oregonians with the same access to CBD and cannabis therapeutics — and in turn to become stewards of the East Fork Ranch, a picturesque place nestled between the East Fork of the Illinois River and California’s Siskiyou Mountains. We sell ready-to-consume products in 200+ licensed Oregon cannabis retailers, and supply the CBD-rich cannabis that powers dozens of infused product lines including Luminous Botanicals, Peak Extracts, Grön Chocolate, Laurie + MaryJane, Empower BodyCare, Müru, Echo Electuary, Mirth Provisions, Pax Era and Quill. We recently began offering our USDA Organic Certified craft hemp products in another 40+ venues across the country and power all products from Grön CBD and Empower White Label. With craft hemp, we've expanded that mission beyond Oregon’s state boundaries. CBD is gentle to the body, but a powerful wellness optimizer. Growing cannabis, and now hemp, allows us to offer these products nationwide, furthering our mission of increasing access for all to superior plant therapeutics. We've bred CBD-rich cannabis inside Oregon’s adult-use cannabis system, and we now have the legal ability to port some of those same genetics over to craft hemp production under the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) Hemp Pilot Program. -

Co-Chair, Political Action CommitteeOregon Cannabis Association Jun 2020 - Apr 2022Portland, Oregon, UsThe purpose of the Oregon Cannabis Association PAC (OCA PAC) is to educate and elect a majority of candidates across Oregon who will work to support a fair and responsibly regulated cannabis business community. Each election cycle the OCA PAC interviews key statewide, local, and legislative candidates and issue endorsements. We then promote those endorsements to our membership and provide campaign support in the form of in-kind strategic assistance, message training, as well as direct financial contributions to campaigns. This work underpins the immense amount of policymaking and lobbying we engage in.It forges relationships with elected leaders that we've seen can make all the difference in our State Capitol in Salem and in City Halls and County Commissions across the state. As we've seen over the past 6 years, the work the OCA PAC does is essential to making Oregon's cannabis community and trade more prosperous and fair. -
