I was the central liaison between the health networks senior leadership team (CEO/GM/ Directors etc), Ambulance and the department of health. Managing the daily operation impact of bed block, complaints, undertaking investigation, managing operational staff and their welfare. I would also take on other areas voluntarily to assist the team and cover leave blocks. During my time at northern Sydney area health, I worked very closely with the GM and other senior leaders to show and support there knowledge of what our role as paramedic truly entailed. I arranged for these managers to accompany me on a ride along shift. I would be dispatched to all types of situations during the shift, this was so the experience and knowledge gained would be from receiving the job - first person on scene - stabilising - extrication - management of patients clinical needs during transport - the handover to there ED team and the delays experienced by ambulance. I also proposed and started an emergency department bypass for mental health patients. These patients would be medically assessed and cleared by paramedic to avoid the emergency department and be directly admitted into the mental health unit. Ambulance non responsible times due to not being able to offload in emergency is astonishing, this would free crews for a much faster turn and response times for the core business of emergency care. Unfortunately I didn’t see the results of the hard work undertaken as I handed the program onto my replacement to continue as I was undertaking a new position. Show less
