HVAC System RedesignPart of a 4-person team of junior- and senior-year engineering students tasked with developing an approach and design solution for an underperforming kitchen HVAC system in an annexed building at Purdue pharmaceutical in Wilson NC. The capstone project allowed our team to apply mechanical engineering theory to a practical, real world problem. • Interpreted a balance report calculate heat balance, air balance, mass balance, and determine functionality. • Utilized accepted HVAC codes and specifications to produce HVAC drawings that accurately inlined with building structure and met building code and client requirement.• Provided system requirements for what liaison stated was a safe, economical design that satisfied the design criteria. • Developed heat load analysis models, flow models, etc. as required for the design of HVAC systems. • Estimated heating/ cooling load, CFM calculations, infiltration, ventilation using thermodynamic analysis and established ASHRAE standards. • Conducted energy analysis and life cycle cost analysis for assigned projects and systems.
