About Nathaniel Brimmer-Beller
Nathaniel Brimmer-Beller is an award-winning playwright, performer, and director originally from Washington, DC, now living in the United Kingdom. He has directed more than thirty theatrical productions, and has written eighteen plays, including six acclaimed premieres at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His play In Everglade Studio enjoyed a month-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023, where the play was longlisted for the BBC Writersroom Popcorn Award for Best New Writing. In Everglade Studio transferred to The Hope Theatre in April 2024, where it ran for an acclaimed three-week engagement and was the first of Brimmer-Beller’s plays to be published by Methuen Drama.His play Port City Signature was selected to reopen The Hope Theatre's new era in 2024, and enjoyed a critically acclaimed run nominated for an OffWestEnd award for its design. The play became Nathaniel's second published piece of 2024, also through Methuen Drama.His play Blood Red Apples & Deep Gold Honey was nominated for the George Devine Award for Most Promising Playwright in 2022. This philosophical comedy-drama explored his mixed-race and Jewish heritage, and was developed through the Almeida Theatre’s Anthem project. His Edinburgh Fringe plays have transferred to London on multiple occasions - most notably his darkly comedic political satire Chagos 1971 in 2019, and his fast-paced Hollywood awards-industry satire Press in 2021 and 2022, which has returned to London stages four times since. Nathaniel portrayed that play’s lead character David Fring in all of these productions. In 2023, he developed David’s personality into a monologue performance which earned him a Bursary Prize at the writer-performer competition Screenshot, organized by South of the River Pictures and SISTER Global.His other theatrical works include 1960s-fashion-industry mystery Nines and theatre industry satire The Kindness of Strangers, both of which enjoyed successful runs at the Canal Café Theatre. The Kindness of Strangers, commissioned as a double-bill with Press, transferred to VAULT Festival in 2023.Nathaniel wrote, directed and edited the short film Evening Plans in 2021, which was nominated for Best Short Film in the New Visions category at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. He wrote, directed, and edited the short film B-Roll in summer 2024.Nathaniel studied International Relations at the University of Edinburgh, and received an MA with Distinction in Film Studies from King’s College London.Nathaniel is also a film editor, screen actor, audio producer, and graphic designer.
