As Manager of Government Affairs and Senior Associate, Real Estate Development for Related California, Nate is responsible for supporting all project management efforts to originate, finance, entitle, and the preconstruction and construction of more than 1,100 affordable housing units throughout Northern California. Since joining Related in 2019, Nate has been involved with the financing and predevelopment of 162 affordable senior units in Santa Rosa, and 90 affordable family units in downtown Sunnyvale. He is currently associated with the financing, predevelopment, and construction of 248 affordable family units in South Lake Tahoe, and the financing and entitlement of up to 600 affordable units in Oakland. Nate also manages the government affairs, public relations, and communications strategy for Related California’s Northern California developments. Prior to joining Related, Nate was Senior Associate at Urban Land Institute San Francisco. For more than 4 years, he worked in city government and politics in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as Chief of Staff for a Pittsburgh City Councilmember and Chair of the City’s Land Use and Economic Development Committee, where he managed all legislation related to land use and economic development. Mr. Hanson also served as Communications Manager for the Chair of the Pittsburgh City Council’s Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. Nate holds a Master in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, and a Bachelor of Philosophy in Politics-Philosophy and Urban Studies from the University of Pittsburgh Honors College. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), sits on the ULI San Francisco Public Private Partnerships Local Product Council, and is the past Co-Chair of ULI San Francisco’s Young Leaders Group ULI San Francisco's young professional board. Nate also serves on the Bay Area Council's Housing Committee, where he works on policies to advance housing production in California.
