I appeal unfavorable SSA disability decisions to federal court. I handle all aspects of the federal court litigation, from reviewing the cases for appeal feasibility to briefing and oral argument.

Represented the Social Security Administration in more than 400 federal district courts appeals and 20 appeals before the Fourth, Sixth, and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. Trained ALJs and attorney advisors how to write legally defensible decisions. Met regularly with the Regional Chief ALJ and Hearing Office Chief ALJs to advise them on common problems with ALJ decisions and developments in caselaw.Represented the agency before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Merit Systems Protection Board in claims brought by agency employees. Defended SSA against mandamus actions and prepared opinions for agency components on unique legal issues.

Represented the State of Indiana in civil contempt trials. Prepared the State’s witnesses for trial and conducted direct and cross-examination of witnesses and defendants. Second-chaired a felony jury trial involving assault, battery, and robbery.

Represented clients in affirmative and defensive civil litigation in a wide variety of legal matters. Engaged in substantial motions practice.
