Eight months into my contract with TD, I became promoted to a HR expense analyst. My work involved effectively communicating an HR mandate to high ranked managers regarding moving resources not funded by HR. My financial and analytical experience play a key role in this initiative as I am effectively overseeing managers salaries and charging their expenses to the department funding them. This initiative is crucial to HR executives as it will save the business money by eliminating expenses not affiliated with HR.

My initial role at TD was as a contingent worker analyst at TD HR. The department completed a worldwide initiative to implement a new HR system known as Workday. My role involved understanding two HR systems, Workday and PeopleSoft, to initiate the hiring, terminating, and transferring of all contract workers at TD. From immersing myself in this role immediately, my organizational skills and flexible approach allowed me to successfully model data of all HR system transactions and ensure that this information is reliably and accurately referred to by management.

After completing university and working in a large warehousing company, I wanted to apply my economics and statistical skills on a smaller scale in order to hone my knowledge and improve my data analytic skills. I had the opportunity to work as a data processor and customer service advisor at Ridge Energy Consultants Inc.Ridge energy is a small business that provides government rebates to residential homeowners looking to make energy efficient upgrades to their home. I found the industry very interesting as I had gone on outings with energy auditors to clients homes to learn how homes were built and what features of a home attribute to energy consumption. From understanding the housing industry, I was effectively able to execute my role which involved:• Modeling data compiled by energy advisors into a system known as H2K which assists in numerically explaining energy consumption of homes• Using H2K to determine accurate energy savings after energy upgrades are in place• Overseeing energy advisors data entry work for quality assurance purposes• Pre-qualifying clients taking part in the Enbridge Energy Conservation Program• Booking energy audits for clients while coordinating bookings with advisorsI found it very interesting to be a part of an industry I wasn't very familiar with because I was able to enhance my economic and statistic knowledge through practical experiences, as well as gain an understanding of the housing industry which would assist when becoming a future home owner.

While being a full time student at York University, I was studying Business Economics and working part time at a UPS pharmaceutical warehouse.I believe that in my five years within the company, I had gained practical skills that are required in intensive industries and their respective departments.At UPS, I had worked as a outbound logistics coordinator working with a team of over 30 employees to provide pharmaceutical equipment and chemicals to hospitals all over Canada.The department was very intensive as the role was in a high paced environment with products that needed to taken with high care and off boarded meeting warehouse protocols and procedures.Time management skills, organizational skills, and a eye for detail was required to complete day to day tasks which included:• Managing the compilation, packaging, storing and shipping of a wide array of pharmaceutical orders• Maintaining detailed records of warehouse inventory• Operated heavy machinery to efficiently compile and load large orders• Supervising and training junior staff, adhering to UPS inventory management best practices.• Utilizing proprietary software to record inventory levels, track shipment data, and generate reports to process and replenish reservesI believe that managing between a part time job and being a full time student gained the perspective of implementing what I learnt in my studies to what I am doing as a part time job. As an example when using proprietary warehouse software at UPS, my statistical knowledge and excel knowledge allowed me to understand the warehousing data I was manipulating. I found that the overall experience provided me with a base in having a good work ethic and applying myself into my future career in data analytics or finance.
