Hello, My name is Nathaniel "Nate" Schumann, and I will be graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi in December 2018 with degrees in Journalism-Public Relations and English.Ever since I was young I have loved reading novels. As such, I knew from a very young age that when I had reached adulthood I would want to work alongside them when I was older. To that end, I decided that I wanted to be an editor, and I have applied myself to make myself qualified to fulfill such a position.I have gained experience and knowledge of the publishing sphere during my time as an editorial intern with the University Press of Mississippi. This experience has strengthened my resolve to pursue this career path, but it also helped me realize that I am prepared to work with more than just novels. Books, magazines, periodicals -- as long as I can be part of an editorial staff, I am excited by the prospects of working in any of these facets of publishing.To enhance my skillset, I have earned a position within my university's student-led newspaper as feature/news editor and eventually as copyeditor. While in these roles, I have written and edited many news stories, considerably familiarizing myself with AP Style, which is used for many writing tasks in the professional circuit.In addition, I have also undergone schooling and hands-on practice in the field of public relations (PR) as I have progressed through my degree plan. From writing press releases to conducting PR campaigns, the skills that my professors have ingrained in me should help me become an asset to my future employers. My education in communication has assisted me in my previous job as a runner/caller at Plaza Bingo. At this job, I established and maintained cordial relationships with the hundred or so regular patrons that frequented our business.
