I transitioned from the IT industry to fire protection 5 years ago, and have actively sought to advance myself in this industry since. I began as an administrative assistant to the sprinkler service department where I reformed and organized procedures for the position to make the role more effective and useful to the superintendents of the department. After a year I attended training to start down a career path as a fire protection engineering technician and moved into the project engineer position I am currently in. In my 4 years as an engineering technician I have completed projects ranging from small to medium in size and have worked primarily with automatic wet sprinkler systems, preaction sprinkler systems, and underground fire mains. I am adept with performing hydraulic calculations for said systems, as well as optimizing my layouts to reduce costs while adhering to codes and standards.I am motivated to continue advancing myself through education and training, combined with practical experience. My knowledge of codes and standards is advanced, and any knowledge I lack I can quickly learn and retain. I am currently on track to obtain my level 3 certification in water based systems layout through the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) once I have the requisite work experience.
