Head Designer
During my time at university I dabbled in many aspects of design and woodwork; once I had graduated I decided to pursue this to supplement my work at Supercheap Auto. As a result, I’ve been fortunate enough to create both creative concept pieces, and commissioned pieces. These have involved liaising with clients to understand their design objectives to ensure their ideas are faithfully realised. Liaising has required both a great deal of communication, negotiation of aspects to fit the reality of my skills, and the finesse and focus on the major details to produce wonderful pieces. The concept pieces have been mostly exploratory to practice skills to keep my designs unique.
Electrical Estimator
In the tendering team, I created project estimations for power reticulation in high-rises, new subdivisions, and various other domestic and commercial construction projects. This required the understanding of Energex and Australian Standards, liaison with suppliers of cabling, conduit, luminaires, and transformers. During my employment I applied and expanded my project management skills to assess project timelines, budgets, and staffing for tendering and the commencement of projects.
Sales Assistant
The role requires a wide knowledge and understanding of various product which we stock, and the knowhow to order over 200,000 parts via special orders. In order to meet the customer’s needs, and upsell additional products/services, it is vital to repackage information to effectively communicate with customers of many varied demographics. This requires a great deal of attention to detail, constant learning of new products and well-developed interpersonal skills. As a result of my performance I’ve quickly become a valued member of the sales team and have been entrusted with senior level responsibilities such as banking, OHS implementation and opening/closing the store.
Undergraduate Electrical Engineer
During my employment at the South Johnstone Sugar Mill I was required to exercise my knowledge and critical reasoning in a professional environment. With this real world experience, I was encouraged to deduce methods by which to troubleshoot various integral system components to ensure the effective commission of the mill’s control system. This opened my eyes to the sheer scale and complexity of the control system of a production facility; however, it taught me that the system is comprised of simple subsystems creatively used to perform a multitude of simple tasks. Toward the second section of my time at the mill I was tasked with the production of a self-led cost benefit analysis for the prospect of solar power. This required a great deal of research, time management, interpretation of high volumes of data and the communication and documentation skills developed at the Queensland University of Technology.
Electrical Trade'S Assistant
During my academic semester breaks, and for 8 weeks full time, I worked as an Electrical Trade Assistant; over the years I was allotted gradually more responsibility as my skills have improved, to the point that my skills were commensurate with those of an electrical tradesperson. One of the most important skills learnt in this professional workplace is that of occupational health and safety. From my introduction to this occupation via my father I have learned how easily electrical components can cause severe injury and possibly loss of life, which has instilled a great deal of respect whilst affording me the confidence in safety protocol. Furthermore, this occupation has seen me work with various employees, contractors, and customers which has fostered my interpersonal skills of communicating with various types of people from different walks of life.
