Onondaga County Office Of Economic Development

Nate is currently an Economic Development Specialist for the Onondaga County Office of Economic Development. In this role Nate assists the Director of the Office of Economic Development with creating, growing, retaining and supporting businesses in Onondaga County. In this function Nate is the treasurer of the Onondaga Civic Development Corporation and the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency.

Onondaga County Parks

Responsible for the fiscal and personnel administration of the Onondaga County Parks. This included management of all budget, capital planning, purchasing, accounting, personnel, and payroll functions at the Onondaga County Parks Department.

I worked directly for the CFO of Onondaga County. My purpose was to assist in the yearly budget preparation process and work on special projects.

I held office hours, graded papers, and taught statistics class.

I earned my Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University. I specialized in State and Local Government Finance and earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Conflict Management

I earned the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Leadership certificates. Additionally, I served as a Leadership Mentor. As a Leadership Mentor I was responsible for developing the leadership skills of younger students. Additionally, I designed a personal finance workshop series. This series is currently in place and proving extremely successful.

Fed Challenge is a nationwide competition that tests students knowledge of the Federal Reserve and the US Economy. Fed Challenge is to Economics majors what Mock Trial is to Pre Law majors. The competitions involve a 20 minute presentation followed by a 15 minute question and answer session per team. The competition revolves around each team analyzing and recommending the appropriate federal funds rate. Each team is scored and the team that scores the best wins. In 2008, Geneseo won the Upstate Round placing ahead of teams such as Hamilton and SUNY Binghamton. Geneseo then advanced to the New York City Round where Geneseo placed second overall, ahead of teams from UPenn and Rutgers. As a result the team won $10,000 from Moody's, a rating agency.

The SUNY Geneseo Finance Club works towards the goal of increasing the financial literacy of students at SUNY Genseo. This is achieved by giving students the oppurtunity to manage money by investing in the bond and equity markets. The club is student run and all investment decisions are made by the club as a whole. The club is broken down into educational teams composed of groups of 5-10 students. The team leaders work to educate the teams and then the teams, as a whole, are free to propose investments to the overall club. The club then listens to the proposal, debates the proposal, and acts on the proposal. Money Managers oversee the Student Managed Investment Fund and are responsible for helping the team leaders develop proposals and teach skills to their team.

I planned campus wide events for Geneseo students. Attendance at most of these events was in the hundreds. Events included The Monster Mash Bash, The WinterBall, Homecoming, Springfest, and Siblings Weekend.

I did basic accounting work, helped out around the office, submitted government banking reports, entered accounts payable, and repeatedly reconciled many accounts.
