Profile bio

About Nathaniel Tagg

Comfortable working with teams and in large collaborations, I use software to simulate, calibrate, control, and acquire data from hardware (such as massive, complex particle detectors). I am expert with data analysis, data acquisition, databases, and visualization. I have created everything from hardware interfaces to web applications, both close-to-the-metal resource-intense computing and high-level GUIs. Adept at mastering new systems and technologies, I learn quickly, am an expert teacher and presenter, and excel at engaging all kinds of audience.I like building things. I gradually discovered that my greatest joy is building tools (mostly software but also some hardware) to solve problems. Mostly these are scientific problems: I have written software to manage databases for calibration, graphical interfaces for interaction displays, and monitoring systems for systems that generate large data volumes. But I also have built tools for shift signups, software that allows navigation of course rosters and grades for professors and administrators, and web applications to manage connections to databases for QA, QC, and inventory.I generally adhere to a philosophy of "if you build it, they will come". I see a need, and build a quick and dirty solution. If it works, if it's useful, then I start to get feedback and refine it. The best software is built by the people who need to use it.Because I love learning about new technologies and getting my hands dirty, I have a wide skill-set, and I love learning about new ones.

Listed skills include C++, Experimental Physics, Latex, Experimentation, and 17 others.
