As a child I felt the emotions of others deeply, so much so that I planned to get ‘empathy’ tattooed on my arm…In my teens I was diagnosed with ADHD and took medication until my mid-twenties when I began to search for natural ways to manage the symptoms. Mindfulness gave me a connection to myself, my environment and the present moment in a way I hadn’t experienced before. I realised my sensitivity, which I’d thought was a weakness, was actually my greatest strength; and that as individuals we’re not broken and we don’t need to be fixed. Moving on from a psychology of disease, disorder and dysfunction towards an understanding of human potential and what helps people flourish and thrive; I studied psychology and trained as a coach. As a coach non-verbal communication with my clients always felt important to me and I wanted to become more skilled in leveraging its power. Not finding exactly what I wanted in the coaching world, I studied Focusing, Hakomi, Authentic Movement, Gestalt, and learned from the leading thinkers in interpersonal neurobiology and embodied cognition.The field of somatics encompassed everything I felt was fascinating about what makes us human. The Somatic School was born out of a desire to create the coach training I had been searching for.
