In advance of Yemen’s February 2012 presidential elections, traveled to Sana’a and designed, organized and led a series of trainings on how to recruit, deploy and train political party poll watchers. Designed training manuals and election day questionnaires. Successfully trained over 500 political party activists from 12 political parties. Drafted a case study on how to implement a candidate debates program – including best practices for securing candidate participation and media coverage, partnering with local civil society organizations, and training moderators on how to perform – as an NDI internal document to inform future initiatives in this area. Helped to draft budget and budget notes for proposal on organizing a conference to bring individuals from 17-18 countries to view and learn about political debates in the United States.

Monrovia, Liberia

Designed, supervised and implemented USAID-funded programs to support Liberian civil society organizations’ ability to contribute to the 2011 constitutional referenda and legislative and presidential elections.Assisted civil society organizations to conduct a country-wide domestic election observation effort that fielded observers at 2,000 polling places on Election Day, a series of debates for senatorial candidates, and a large-scale voter education program that included face-to-face instruction and radio programs.Analyzed and communicated Liberia’s election laws, regulations and procedures to diverse audiences, including Liberian poll watchers, political party representatives, international actors, and colleagues in Washington DC.In the absence of the country director, managed programmatic and administrative matters and a staff of 23 people for two months. Functioned as NDI’s primary point of contact for the U.S. Embassy, USAID, the United Nations, the Liberian government and other actors. Drafted regular reports on political and programmatic developments.
