I conducted training and mentorship sessions in critical areas such as .NET, C#, OOP, TDD, BDD, and Domain Driven Design to foster a culture of continuous learning. I also cultivated developers' skills in Agile processes, Git source control, software architecture, technical debt management, and best practices, enhancing team performance and product delivery. I facilitated the use of BDD Testing of Legacy Systems that needed to be documented and under test. Additionally, I piloted the integration and utilization of Generative AI tools such as GitHub Copilot & ChatGPT in my own work and presented it to the organization. I educated teams on Scrum, promoting Agile culture and enhancing overall team dynamics. I directed architectural refactoring initiatives regarding critical projects, such as transitioning the backend RESTful API to a Clean Architecture. I also led the enhancement of system observability through the Grafana stack and developed a proprietary alerting solution. I worked on multiple business-critical projects such as Online Exoneration Processing, Business Portal Upgrades, and Earned Income Tax Credit Reconciliation, among others. As part of my core responsibilities, I actively engaged in hands-on coding, often through pair programming, to ensure top-quality software design and implementation. I collaborated closely with cross-functional teams such as QA's, BA's, and developers, providing mentorship and ensuring consistent alignment with project goals. I also assumed responsibility for software architecture design and documentation, ensuring robust and scalable solutions. Additionally, I contributed to story writing and shaping, providing clear communication and understanding of development tasks. Finally, I founded a cross-team technology leadership group, streamlining communication and coordination, ensuring we're not just building software but shaping the future of our technological ecosystem at the organization.

During the COVID-19 crisis, I’ve been a technically-oriented product owner/analyst on the Safar TeleCare product. This product manages workflow for triaging calls to UPMC’s ICU task force. I’m also the product owner, focused on developer experience (Dx), for UPMC Enterprise’s Healthcare Operating System (hcOS) API Gateway, where we focus on building a developer-friendly API that can utilize all of the power that hcOS has to offer to more seamlessly fuel healthcare innovation. I was a technical lead for the Population Health team, developing a pilot for clinical decision support in skilled nursing facilities using a rules-based system and machine learning. I worked on the UPay team supporting a suite of applications and services that process both patient and non-patient payments for a myriad of different payment scenarios. I led the Augr team, working on an application that allows providers and researchers to receive alerts base on HL7 messages that were generated for their patients. The application was moved from on-premise to AWS, was integrated with Azure AD for authentication and then was released to the Apple App Store. I worked with the Next Generation Imaging group developing systems to help doctors better utilize patient information in order to improve the quantity and quality of their work within the domain of medical imaging. This included using AI techniques for the categorization and linking of documents related to what the radiologist was reading.

I provided architectural guidance for the next generation version of HealthPlaNET. I worked with analysts on requirements gathering and process refinement and the QA team on test plans and strategies. My focus was on refactoring the code base, mentoring developers on how utilize the right patterns and practices with their code and creating architectural spikes that involve newer technologies that we are interesting in utilizing based on the needs of the business. My concentration was on the backend RESTful services.

I provided architectural guidance for the commercialization of patient healthcare management software that was created in-house at UPMC (branded as Identifi for Evolent Health). I refined the software development process and practices. I worked with business analysts, product owners and project managers to design an architecture that fulfills all business needs along with a plan of execution for implementation. I mentored developers and guided them in the implementation of the architecture, as well as worked on parts of the implementation myself. And, lastly, I worked with an offshore team on the front-end development for the web and mobile presentation layers.

I provided technical leadership for multiple on-shore and off-shore teams on multiple projects simultaneously to create applications for both our online web presence of our paint brands and our line-of-business internal applications that support sales reps and managers for both dealers and stores. These applications often have both web and mobile counterparts.

I lead a team of developers to create the next generation thin-client version of MSA’s EDIT product, a product that supports the workflow for transplantation. I designed and implemented a feature for the current generation version of EDIT to run Kaplan Meier Survival Analysis.

I led and worked with a development team to write software that supports the workflow for medical Imaging across the enterprise. Most of my focus was on architecting and developing a federated PACS solution that allows radiologists to be notified about and view patients’ exams across over 13 hospitals across UPMC.  This solution was prominently demonstrated at Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2009, and came in at #1 in Healthcare and #5 Overall in the InformationWeek 500 2010. I helped architect and develop a 24/7 teleradiology application that uses the federated PACS solution above to allow radiologists to read exams across hospitals overnight.

I built and lead teams in the design and implementation of a framework to facilitate the brokering and procurement of services using reliable web services and workflow engines for orchestration in order to provide intelligent configuration management, procurement and monitoring for physical and virtual devices and services.

I helped implement their next generation service oriented architecture for the exchange of EDI transactions between their partners (larger companies like Walmart) and their customers (smaller companies selling through their partners). The workflow was configurable and I designed and implemented a web portal to allow the professional services department to configure the system for each customer and partner.

I worked on an intelligent math and chemistry tutor that used a rule-based system to provide students feedback on problems that they were working through and assess their knowledge of the material.

I designed and implemented an application called Customer Rapid Response Advantage (CR2A) that allowed customers to log in and find the status of their material testing jobs. I also designed a scan/fax station where users to scan bar codes and documents and make them available to customers via CR2A. I also worked on multiple applications that were used in material testing and quality assurance.
