There was a time and place where you could purchase a computer, after an expert reviewed your needs and demonstrated the products, then provided training and delivery, followed-up by unlimited ON-SITE support by the same trainer, all included with the purchase price of the system!

Macy's used to have a computer store within the department store, which offered a professional environment to purchase IBM PC XT/AT computers and the first Macintoshes and LaserWriters. It is there I was introduced to the Mac and touched my first mouse without fur, the "Fat Mac" to be precise, using MacWrite, MacPaint and Lotus Jazz, while printing to the $7,000 4 font, 4 page per minute 300dpi - at least 3 minutes of processing before printing - Apple LaserWriter. It was an amazing system next to the amber text command line only screens, printing to noisy typewriter like printers on the IBM. We can all be glad the keyboards are quieter too. ;-)One odd note about myself from that time is that when my Manager said I was not allowed to talk inside their store about other sources or brands to a customer, even if it was appropriate for his needs, I stepped out of the store to finish my conversation with the customer.
