Description of key responsibilities:♦ Perform routine sample preparation, testing , analysis and reporting for a PCR workflow.♦ Establish and review SOP’s with the aim of providing plant pathogen diagnostic testing via PCR.♦ Identify and troubleshoot preparation issues associated with PCR workflow.♦ Increase efficiency and productivity with instrument processes, minimizing downtime while maintaining optimum conditions.♦ Training new and existing employees on molecular techniques and general lab skills and safety as well as proper use and maintenance of instruments and equipment.♦ Close collaborations with other supervisors on workflow and process improvement initiatives.♦ Facilitate the ongoing operations within a molecular testing across multiple projects between research groups.♦ Track maintenance repairs and monitor usage of consumables to stay within established budgets.

As a tutor, I provided supplementary classes and academic support for Genetics 214 (Fundamentals of Genetics), 244, 245, 314 and 344, undergraduate module at Stellenbosch University.

As the laboratory intern, I was responsible for the regulation and restocking of consumables, reagents and general laboratory upkeep.As a research assistant, I was responsible for providing technical assistance to the research group. My functions included performing DNA extractions, PCR and Gel Electrophoresis for the amplification and optimization of microsatellite markers, as part of a post-graduate project, for South African Scallop (Pecten sulcicostatus).
