For a while I didn't realize I was unique for learning about engineering accomplishments in my free time. I've always enjoyed being surrounded my complex processes that make me wonder how in the world someone put it together. Now in college I'm working towards being part of the reason these things exist.In college I've been lucky enough to have my car reveal many mechanical problems, however, it's also given me the chance to become a real problem solver. I took the time to learn as much as I could about how it worked, which allowed me to quickly diagnose and repair each issue. I've worked on the mechanical and electrical systems in the car, redesigning and optimizing in every way I could. A class in electrical engineering helped me understand what I was changing and how to make it last. This experience has been a rewarding journey as I appreciate just how complex each part is and how time and knowledge can fix each one.What truly sets me apart is my ability to communicate with others, as I've dedicated much of the past five years to public speaking. I'm able to facilitate respectful discussions and aggregate research into a detailed report. As a mentor and manager of my club, I'm also skilled in communicating ideas and offering constructive criticism. I've competed on the national and state level and worked hard to be ranked in the top 2% of the National Speech and Debate Association. I have a lot of respect for how people talk to each other and build ideas, which I've honed through my speaking experience.As I want to work in a challenging environment that requires me to solve numerous problems alongside a team, I believe that my skills will allow me to excel in finding solutions and working with others. I'm excited to be a part of the process that I've always been fascinated by, and I look forward to discussing how I can contribute my skills to a team.
