SFH Limited is a private investment company focusing on value add land development in underinvested and emerging residential areas.

In my role as Asset Manager of the Shunt Fleet, I was responsible for driving the development of comprehensive Asset Management Plans, ensuring the fleet remained both reliable and cost-effective for operational needs. A key aspect of my work involved fostering strategic relationships with external suppliers, securing the necessary expertise for maintenance and replacement strategies when our internal team required additional support.I developed the Capital Expenditure program, balancing cost efficiency with operational flexibility, while working to streamline and simplify the existing fleet. Additionally, I contributed to the future fleet replacement program, offering a holistic view of upcoming requirements to align with broader operational goals.Throughout, I collaborated with a diverse group of stakeholders, including Executive General Managers, Maintenance and Operational teams, as well as Union Representatives, ensuring alignment and driving successful outcomes across the board.

As the Wagon and Shunt Performance Engineer in this national role, I was responsible for ensuring the performance and reliability of all Shunt Locomotives and Wagon Assets across the business. Leading a team of five Performance and Reliability Engineers, we worked to identify and address adverse reliability events, conducting in-depth investigations to uncover root causes.This role required a high degree of technical competency due to the complexity of the vehicles, which featured advanced control systems and mechanical components working in unison. I leveraged my broad knowledge of machine design and control, built from my background as a professional engineer with a degree in mechatronics, to guide the team and ensure effective solutions.My team collaborated closely with the Asset, Maintenance, and Operational teams, ensuring corrective actions were both technically sound and aligned with broader business goals. This role required a strategic approach to asset performance, continuously improving reliability and operational outcomes.

In my role supporting the Rolling Stock Asset Services (RSAS) team, I provided technical expertise for strategic projects focused on the mainline locomotive fleet. A key responsibility was managing the hazardous material removal program, which required advanced planning and effective communication with team members across the company and key stakeholders at a national level.I also lead the delivery of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Field Modification Instructions (FMIs), aimed at enhancing the reliability and performance of the mainline locomotive fleet. This role involved continuous improvement initiatives to ensure operational efficiency and alignment with safety and engineering standards.

Throughout my tenure as a S&T Engineer, I was responsible for a wide range of design and asset management functions, focusing on the reliability and optimization of signalling systems across New Zealand’s national network. I played a pivotal role in repetitive failure analysis and provided critical technical advice to field staff in the central freight region, ensuring smooth operations and quick resolution of complex issues.In a high-pressure secondment following the Kaikoura Earthquake, I led the recovery effort for Signals & Telecommunications assets on the Main North Line as part of the North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Rebuild (NCTIR). This involved assessing damage, managing design resources, conducting risk assessments, and working closely with stakeholders to deliver results within strict timeframes. I demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills in this demanding environment.A key achievement across these roles was contributing to the development of a streamlined Business Plan for the Signals & Telecoms team, which improved overall operational efficiency.

My role was to implement design concepts from our Principal Research Engineers and Scientists. This includes activities such as 3D modelling, designing and implementing hydraulic systems, designing and implementing electronic controls, programming PLCs and HMIs.

GRN Construction (HB) Limited was a labour contracting company that I formed with a business partner. We undertook labour contracts to build houses for David Reid Homes, Versatile Homes and Buildings, Horvath Construction and Alena Homes Limited.My role was to provide building, planning and organisational expertise and account management skills.
