Product Development Engineer
• Product Development Engineering Lead for Spinal Implants and Instrumentation. Lead teams of design engineers and drafters to develop brand new product lines and product line extensions.• Developed new implant designs and surgical instrumentation system for PEEK polymer rod integration to existing Lumbar Pedicle Screw fusion system. Designed manufacturing technique and tooling for thermoform shaping of PEEK rods. Designed custom aqueous/heated MTS testing chamber and passed tests to 5 million cycles of flexion/extension for FDA 510K approval and CE Mark.• Inventor of titanium pedicle screw fittings and instrumentation to allow for PEEK rod introduction to several existing product lines, including new minimally invasive rod system.• Developed new Cervical Disc Arthoplasty implant and surgical instrumentation. Coordinated cadaver labs with developing surgeons to garner input, coordinated FDA and biomechanics studies along with Tulane University’s biomechanics lab, designed wear study apparatus, conducted wear studies and presented the Zero Wear characteristics of Pyrolytic Carbon at Spine Conferences worldwide.• Invented all metal Total Facet Replacement Implant and Surgical instrumentation system. • Member of the MIS pedicle screw system team developing instrumentation and implants to deliver spinal hardware through less invasive surgical procedures.• Invented novel interspinous spacer device and associated instrumentation.• Managed relationship with several Developing Surgeon Consultants. Conducted exploratory cadaver labs onsite and remotely at Physician’s academic research facilities for surgical instrumentation trials, as well as biomechanical studies.• Coordinated laboratories to conduct FDA-IDE animal studies, biomechanics tests, and toxicity screening.• 5 patent applications filed with Biomet Spine, L.P.
