The Oxford Monitor of Forced Migration (OxMo) is an independent, student run publication that moves to engage with various aspects of forced migration through academic scholarship. At its core, OxMo is dedicated to protecting and advancing human rights of individuals who have been forcibly displaced. By monitoring political, legal and practical developments, we seek to draw attention to the plight of forced migrants, identify gaps within existing international and national protection regimes and engage with the many practical and conceptual concerns which perpetuate displacement. Equally, we are committed to giving expression to innovative undertakings that move to alleviate and counter the numerous difficulties that forced migrants face.Aside from serving as an important academic forum, OxMo is unique in that we seek to establish a space for students to meaningfully take part in the ongoing discourse between scholarship and practice that underpins Forced Migration Studies.My tasks as law editor included:- reviewing and judging law submissions, in cooperation with editor-in-chief- working with authors of submissions selected for publication, providing feedback and guiding through the editing process- ensuring all publications in the law section meet the standards and requirements of OxMo- advertising OxMo to collect contributions for the section

Visiting Coordinator And Member
SOAS Detainee Support Group is a student-led initiative working in solidarity with asylum seekers and other migrants in and outside detention centres.As a visiting coordinator, my role included:• coordinating weekly visits to detainees at detention center Yarl’s Wood (supporting other visitors on emotional and case work levels and having an overview of all cases)• visiting and supporting detainees and ex-detainees, facilitating their migration process and referring them to relevant organizations (I am currently supporting 3 ex-detainees)• running training of new visitors (about 50 in September 2011)• campaigning for rights of refugees and asylum seekers in UK (SDS contributed to end of children detention in 2010/11)

I interned with GIZ for a UNHCR/BMZ Partnership Program for the repatriation and reintegration of Burundian refugees. GIZ was also running some activities of logistic and professional formation in camps mostly inhabited by Congolese refugees.During the two months I worked with GIZ, I • visited the five sites where GIZ was working, including two transit centers in Kajaga (Bujumbura Mairie) and Muyinga; and the three refugee camps of Kinama Gasorwe (Muyinga), Musasa (Ngozi), Bwagiriza (Ruyigi)• evaluated the different sections of the program at the time (management and logistics; repatriation of Burundian refugees, reintegration of Burundian refugees; activities in refugee camps)• wrote a final report based on fieldwork and interviews with staff, Congolese refugees and Burundian returnees

During my time with AMERA, I• developed a database with details about all organizations in Cairo assisting refugees • developed a handout on the risks of irregular migration to Israel and Libya • developed AMERA newsletter template• completed a compilation of fact sheets about common medical problems among refugee community, and recommendations
