Widely recognized for his work as a member of the Parliament and Cabinet of India, Kamal Nath maintains a busy schedule of domestic and foreign activity, representing the interests of his country and its people at conferences around the world. Installed as Union Cabinet Minister of Urban Development in 2011, Nath trains his attention on the present and expected challenges surrounding India’s population growth and develops multifaceted solutions to meet the demands of space and design. On a global scale, Kamal Nath has spoken on topics of agricultural production in developing nations at the 2011 World Economic Forum, has taken part in high-profile meetings of the World Trade Organization, and has led delegations to countries in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.Prior to his current appointment, Nath spent more than a year as Minister of Road Transport and Highways, in which capacity he secured private-sector investments in substantial transportation projects, improved relations with workers, and helped make India’s roads safer for travelers. Previously, Kamal Nath ran the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, where from 2004 through 2009 he implemented such landmark initiatives as the Foreign Trade Policy and the SEZ Act. Other roles held by Nath include General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, Minister of Textiles, and Minister of Environment and Forests. Currently in his eighth term as a member of the Lok Sabha, Kamal Nath was first elected to the Parliament of India in 1980. Nath received his Bachelor of Commerce from St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata.
