I was hired as one of two assistant editors on the editorial team tasked with helping relaunch the 17-year old publication. I helped define editorial scope and standards. I wrote print and online stories about scientific breakthroughs that will help life science researchers develop diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for improving human health. In addition to written stories, I worked with artists to design infographics and illustrations to accompany my articles.

I acted as a mentor to undergraduate researchers and rotating graduate students in Dr. Vivian Gama's lab at Vanderbilt University. I mentored a total of 8 students during my time in the lab. In this role, I taught students lab techniques and scientific concepts, guided them through individual projects, and edited their scientific reports submitted every semester.

I participated in the preparation of solutions and materials for chemistryteaching labs. I also tutored in the chemistry tutorial center on campus.

I was an Honor’s thesis student under the direction of Dr. Yanlin Guo. My undergraduate research project involved examination of the molecular basis for underdeveloped innate immunity in mouse embryonic stem cells and their derivatives.From 2011-2013,I participated in a variety of undergraduate research projects under the direction of Dr. Sandra Leal. This research sought to characterize an undescribed gene, CG8892, involved in the central nervous system development of Drosophila melanogaster. In addition, I also was involved in research that sought to characterize an ITPase gene using the same model organism.

I taught the General Chemistry I lab taken concurrently with General Chemistry I lecture course. This course involves labs dealing with concepts such as molecular structure, stoichiometry, the mole concept, gases, types of solutions, and energy- enthalpy.

I was an undergraduate REU student under the direction of Dr. Florian Schubot. My REU project involved examination of a previously uncharacterized histidine kinase and its role in Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation.
