About Kari Tonkin
As a family, we bring wilderness adventures and survival technology to the modern family with nature activities, travel tips, and outdoor education. We also provide gear reviews related to wilderness survival and camping/adventure products. I have been working in the field of public education since 1995, in a variety of content areas, from music to math to technology education. At a personal level, I have spent more than 25 years learning outdoor skills such as animal tracking, survival techniques, bird language, orienteering, and plant identification. My passion for personal learning drives my unique ability to mentor students and facilitate groups of learners with excitement and engagement. I have spent ten years finding ways to blend my love for technology with my love for the outdoors, which prompted our family to found Nature Tech Family. We use this outlet as a way to inspire other families to reconnect to science and nature, and create their own epic adventures.Education is now evolving rapidly and this has shown me that the traditional classroom is not necessarily the ideal learning environment for every learner. My goal is to support distance learners, home schoolers, and even traditional students outside the classroom, in whatever capacity works best for them and their families. With my Master's Degree in Instruction and Curriculum Design, I have worked hard to create engaging content for all the courses I teach, using the latest available technologies, and I am always willing to try the next, newest techniques and resources!
