About Naveen Shah

Hi, I'm Naveen. I am an Indian-American from South Jersey who loves tennis, hip-hop music, and Thai food. Currently, I am pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Government at Georgetown University.I have been fortunate to have a diverse set of internship experiences. Before my sophomore year of college, I worked in constituent services at the District Office of Assemblywoman Carol Murphy (NJ-LD-07) and the District Office of Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01). While the news focuses on Washington, I learned that the most meaningful work often occurs within the district. Last summer, I had the opportunity to join Coriell Life Sciences as a software engineering intern. Coriell has a very different impact— the company guides pharmacists to prescribe medicine suited for that patient based on their genetic background. For my next role as a Data & Analytics intern for FTI Consulting, I hope to combine elements of my Government and Computer Science degree. In addition to my formal experience, I've had several side hustles that have expanded my perspective: teaching assistant, tennis pro, freelance video editor, youth flag football referee, math tutor, and sales associate at Madewell Mens. Volunteer work has always been important to me and I like to focus on issues of education.

  • Georgetown College Academic Council
    Fourth-Year Representative
Georgetown College Academic Council Sep 2021 - Present
I have served as a representative for four consecutive years following election by a body of nearly 900 students. The College Academic Council serves as a niche form of student government, uniquely connected to the Deans' Office and Provost to advocate for academic issues. During freshman year, I authored a proposal for free printing to end Georgetown's burdensome pay-per-page system. Following a successful presentation to the Provost, Georgetown began providing 200 free B&W pages to all 7,900 undergraduate students. In my sophomore year, I acted as the secretary for the Council, carefully documenting our work and conversations. I had the honor of sitting as one of two student representatives on the Georgetown Executive Council, the primary policy-making body of the College of Arts & Sciences. As a member, I provided critical feedback for the holistic development of Georgetown's new B.A. in Public Policy. While studying abroad I took a leave from the Council, but I am now back and continue to do work for the student body.
  • Fti Consulting
    Data & Analytics Intern
    Fti Consulting Jun 2024 - Aug 2024
Washington, District Of Columbia, United States
I utilized Microsoft SQL Server to load, clean, and query over 19 million rows of federal drug distribution data, creating a client-facing market share analysis with Excel visualizations and 3 dynamic PowerBI dashboards. I fine-tuned a natural language processing model in Python on Jupyter Notebooks to perform predictions based on 100K samples, achieving 72% accuracy on 900K unseen samples and explaining the technical approach to management. I researched the construction of a Databricks extract-load-transform pipeline for a project with monthly structured data dumps, potentially saving billable hours per month in client data management. I evaluated over 450 entities for compliance with a federal court order, providing continuous feedback for ambiguous cases under hierarchical regulations which led to updated guidance for the entire team. I researched the Dun & Bradstreet platform to resolve over 400 discrepancies in corporate identity found in the migration of legacy sales data to Salesforce.
  • Georgetown University
    Data Structures Teaching Assistant
    Georgetown University Jan 2024 - May 2024
    Washington, United States
I served as an undergraduate TA for Professor Phillip Buffum’s Data Structures (COSC-2010) course. I formulated creative methods to teach difficult concepts in hashing and trees and worked collaboratively with students to debug C++ project code and encourage better principles in development.
  • Coriell Life Sciences
    Software Engineering Intern
Coriell Life Sciences Jun 2023 - Aug 2023
    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
As a first-time software engineering intern, I rapidly learned the tools of a development environment and progressively resolved more challenging tickets. I designed and implemented an admin dashboard for displaying results of automated Postman testing, enabling the business to continuously analyze and test the external API of Genedose Live™, Coriell’s clinical decision support system. I developed validation for inputs, styled UI, integration tested, and debugged new in-house enrollment forms, saving the business $12K annually in transition from Formstack. I parsed a nearly 50,000-row CSV in Python to produce possible email domains for eligible program participants, leading to over 70 new enrollments. I established 80-95% code coverage on previously untested services in Genedose Live™.
  • U.S. House Of Representatives
Intern At The District Office Of Rep. Donald Norcross (Nj-01)
    U.S. House Of Representatives May 2022 - Aug 2022
Cherry Hill, New Jersey, United States
As an intern for Congressman Norcross, I performed critical constituent services for the people of New Jersey's First Congressional District. I managed incoming correspondence, including paper mail, telephone calls, emails, and documentation presented by constituents during in-person visits. I assisted with an overflow of IRS cases, first helping to develop a form letter explaining the agency’s unprecedented backlog and then engaging with constituents over the phone to discuss the situation. I operated the Intranet Quorum database regularly to handle various constituent cases from start to finish, such as government-regulated utility issues and unemployment referrals. I collaborated with other interns to organize the annual Constituent Services Fair, tracking the attendance of nearly 100 government agencies, state, federal, and local.
  • State Of New Jersey
Nj Lead Fellow At The Office Of Asw. Carol Murphy (Ld-07)
State Of New Jersey Jun 2020 - Aug 2020
    504 Route 130, Suite 100, Cinnaminson, Nj 08077
As a legislative intern, I performed a variety of tasks for the office, starting with constituent services and launching into a number of specialized projects.I reviewed a few of the Assemblywoman’s bills for the upcoming session and offered suggestions. If approved, I corresponded with the NJ Office of Legislative Services to officially amend her proposed legislation. I used JavaScript and Google Sheets to automate creation of custom notary approval letters, saving valuable administrative time for the office. I evaluated a constituent’s claim of the existence of endangered species in a construction zone, researching the likelihood of said species being present. I compiled a report on the status of several federal bills, presenting it to the assemblywoman so she could propose endorsements by the state legislature.
  • Pmc Organometallix
    Intern
    Pmc Organometallix Jul 2018 - Aug 2018
    1288 Nj-73 #401, Mt Laurel Township, Nj 08054

I researched a potential market in Asia for a specific product and presented my findings to the PMC Organometallix VP.
