All with a Social Engagement Engine that LDCs can easily implement, run and maintain.Background;Our project began with a goal of tackling humanity's biggest problem. We didn't frame the problem in terms of its effects - climate change - nor in terms of its potential solutions - sustainability, environmentalism. We knew the problem was inspiring people around a cause and helping them see and believe their their individual actions are meaningful. In the 2007-2008 we entered the Euro PostalCode Competition, the BuckMinster Fuller Competition, and the Knight Competition. These competitions are looking for visionary social and environmental solutions. Ureika was a startup focused on demand side conservation. Think: ENERGY LITERACY is the cheapest way to (SAVE or GENERATE) ENERGY. In short, great idea, good timing, but the utilities in Canada were too conservative to adopt our technology. We also should have raised more money and scaled into the US.The final chapter: Opower (pre-Obama, Positive Energy) in our humble opinion borrowed ideas from us. They skated over our preliminary patents. With a $30m+ grant from Obama's $2.3B Green Program, they scaled fast, Opower had a $500mi exit.
