Monty's is a homage to John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. It is said that in approx.1762, he asked for meat to be served between slices of bread, to avoid interrupting a gambling game. This story may have been rumour or adverse propaganda, put about by his rivals. But soon people may have started ordering “the same as Sandwich”, and the name stuck!We at Monty's are an ethical business, our founders believe in and run charities who only operate in the local community and tackle local issues. As such Monty's operates a zero waste policy, all unsold foods are distributed to the homeless and those in poverty in Reading. Food Poverty is a crime and we believe in a society that never accepts it to be the norm'. We urge all our customers to become patrons of our sister charity. Sadaka (www.mysadaka.co.uk), this is a local charity which promotes and highlights the homeless and poverty issues in our local community, they run a weekly feeding kitchen that currently delivers over 100 meals every week.
