Nawid holds a Bachelor of Laws & Bachelor of International Studies from the University of Technology Sydney and undertook his legal training at the Refugee Advice and Casework Service. Nawid is the Vice President of Mahboba's Promise, an Australian NGO dedicated to orphans and widows in Afghanistan where he is responsible for major humanitarian relief programs. He recently led the charity’s crisis response to the Taliban takeover and was awarded the 2022 Australian Human Rights Medal for his efforts in leading the evacuation of the largest group of unaccompanied children in Australia’s history. Nawid also worked as a Program Associate at the Champions of Change Coalition, where he contributed towards institutional gender equality reform in the private sector. Nawid has and continues to provide expert advice on the status of vulnerable women and girls in Afghanistan to various UN experts and working groups.

Vice President

Since August 15th 2021, I have led Mahboba's Promise’s crisis response to ensure the safety of orphans, widows and staff, and have expanded our humanitarian relief operations. Over 100 individuals were evacuated, including the largest cohort of unacompannied children in Australia's history. You can learn about this mission here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-03/sourosh-and-mahboba-audacious-afghanistan-rescue-mission/101768796In March I led our first humanitarian mission into Afghanistan following the regime change. We were able to provide emergency relief for thousands of women and children, including in live conflict zones. New projects were also developed, including an initiative that will provide alternative high school education for over 10,000 young women currently barred from schools.

Co-Founder

Future Leaders for Gender Equality is an initiative Co-founded by myself and other young leaders in response to the national crisis of sexual harassment within Australian high schools. The program seeks to empower student leaders to identify gender equality issues in their school environments and develop practical solutions in response to these issues. Future Leaders provides mentoring to students to facilitate the implementation of these solutions. Mentoring is supplemented with leadership events aiming to upskill students as leaders and allowing them the opportunity to learn and reflect with leading changemakers in the human rights space. The events to date include: - 'Leadership Starts with You,' self-care and the building of moral courage with Elizabeth Broderick.-'Supporting Others: Listening and Creating Safe spaces' with Andrew Colvin.-‘Engaging Resistance and Making Your Case For Change’ with Amani Haydar
