I obtained my Master of Business Administration at Athabasca University in 2016, right after the ferocious Fort McMurray wildfire forced nearly 90,000 souls to flee our town. My journey certainly did not stop there though. With the learning’s of my MBA, supported by my civil engineering degree and over 30 years of International and Canadian engineering and leadership experiences, I brought my firm, Akron Engineering Consultant’s Group Ltd. (Akron), to the next level. During the past few years, we received awards for out of region, outside of Alberta, and outside of Canada, in addition to our countless Wood Buffalo located projects.I moved to Fort McMurray for a Director position of Reliability Engineering with Suncor in 2010. Moving on from that position, in early 2015, I co-founded Akron during a difficult economic period in Alberta. Despite being hit with significant losses due to the globally crumpling economy in 2015, the Wood Buffalo Region’s 2016 wildfire, the global pandemic that started in 2019, and 2020 Fort McMurray downtown flooding (where our office is located), Akron’s revenue doubled in 2018-2019, I became Akron’s sole owner in 2019, and Akron’s staff number was tripled in 2020. Despite my broad responsibilities as Akron’s managing director / business owner, I am not precluded from giving back to my community. Few of my volunteering roles are: • President, PEMAC Assets Management Ass. of Canada, Fort McMurray Chapter, • Board Member, Wood Buffalo Community Foundation, RMWB’s Assessment Review Board, RMWB’s Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, and Fort McMurray Construction Safety Association, • Leader, Wood Buffalo Emergency Services, and• Volunteer, Canadian Red Cross. Furthermore, I, and most of Akron’s team, are active volunteers and members of our local food bank, emergency social services, Girls Inc. with Akron also collaborates with the local Keyano College, with whom I am a part time instructor, by supporting their students through sharing Akron’s real-life experiences with the students who are enrolled with relevant programs while giving them opportunities to incorporate them into their graduation projects. In 2020, I received recognitions from Alberta Minister of Culture, through Alberta Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition Program, and from The Heart of Wood Buffalo Excellence – 2020 Council’s Excellence – Everyday Hero Award. I enjoy family time, regularly play soccer, squash, volleyball, and love biking, hiking and traveling.
