Naz Önen works as the Communication Assistant in UNFPA. She is a Ph.D. student in Hacettepe University’s Communication Sciences Program, she graduated from Bilkent University’s Media and Design MFA Program in 2018, Communication and Design BA. Program in 2016. Since 2014, she has been actively involved in filmmaking and editing processes, she attended New York Film Academy's summer schools in New York, Florence and Paris. She has directed and produced more than 20 short films, took part in several National and International film festivals in addition to festival screenings; photography and New Media exhibitions. She take part in the International Visitor’s Program “Film and Media Arts in North Rhine-Westphalia” research trip in 2023.Within the scope of various workshops and academic presentations, her main interests are essay film, found footage filmmaking practices, photobook studies and alternative photographic processes. Her research interests are the construction and representations of the family, the notion of personal and collective archives and the socio-cultural aspects of representation in visual culture. She is responsible from project coordination and the videography works of the printmaking production processes at Dou Print Studio (DPS), which is currently the only independent lithography studio in Turkey. She organize special film screenings on the lower floor of DPS which is called the trésor. In her academic studies, she continues her doctoral thesis called '(Re)Appropriation of Personal Archives, Essayistic Approach and Construction of Memory' with a focus on personal archives and essay film. In partnership with the Istanbul International Experimental Film Festival she organizes film screenings, panels and workshops under 'Rethinking the Archive' section. She also has collaborations with Bilkent Media Archeology Laboratory.
