Working in small business has also taught me the value of people management - communicating and working with peers of all ages, advocating for team members who are not relatives while distilling and communicating the needs and expectations of relatives in higher positions. It has also taught me how to think from multiple cultural viewpoints by virtue of having operations, customers, and suppliers outside of the US.
